About Nancy Reed, aka Burreedo
Nancy in her Studio
What better way to start the second half of my life - playing with fire and colors to create little gems of beauty and wonder! I was born in Southern California, with a healthy love of outdoor camping (campfires!) and constant doodling. I dabbled at drawing and painting and hoped to open my first studio in my 20's. But such was not to be. I suddenly found myself needing a career (money) to survive and got a job at a manufacturing company in Seattle. A frustrated artist must doodle to get through her math classes early in life and later, to get through those business meetings! So I climbed the corporate ladder, doodling and volunteering to make the 'artsy' company picnic posters. After 26 years of corporate politics, life again suddenly changed. My job moved to Mexico while I stayed in Seattle. Time for me again! I spent the first year of my 'release' taking metalsmith jewelry classes and apprenticing for Jana Cooper. At Jana's suggestion, I took Larry Brickman's bead making class. I was immediately hooked. The very first night, I couldn't sleep - I wanted to be back in that class at 3 AM to unload my treasures from the kiln. With Larry's help, my studio was set up just 2 months later. I finally have that much-desired studio and I'm very happy. Some friends ask me, "Can you make a living with beads? Will you ever go back to corporate life?" Who knows? But life is short and it's only money. It's time to be me.
Peaches
I live in Seattle Washington with my partner, Rob and my affectionate cat, Peaches.
Many thanks to Rob & all my friends for their love, encouragement and support. Special thanks to Rob for his carpentry additions to the studio.
